Canine Massage Therapy

Working at your dogs pace for their best movement health

Amanda

Canine musculoskeletal rehabilitation therapist

Would your dog benefit from my treatment?

I specialise in performing Galen Myotherapy® treatment, soft tissue manipulation, which may include other massage techniques such as passive movement exercises where appropriate, for soft tissue, specifically muscular conditions.

Galen Myotherapy® promotes muscle function especially that caused through injury, compensatory or repetitive strain issues. This results in improved mobility, performance and a reduction in pain perception therefore reducing stress and allied symptoms.

By treating the secondary and/or compensatory issues, Galen Myotherapy® can be part of a highly effective management programme for supporting the following conditions;

  • Osteoarthritis – especially in dogs that are intolerant to anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Subluxating patellas
  • Elbow dysplasia
  • OCD (osteochondritis dissecans)
  • Cruciate issues
  • Spondylitis
  • CDM (Canine Degenerative Myelopathy)
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Ongoing lameness
  • Whiplash caused from impact at speed
  • Compensatory issues
  • Prehab and rehabilitation

Cruciate Ligament Rupture

Cruciate ligament ruptures are the most common cause of hindlimb lameness in dogs.
Like people, dogs have two crossed ligaments inside their stifle – cranial and caudal cruciate ligaments. Without these two ligaments, the stifle becomes unstable. The cranial cruciate ligaments prevent the tibia (the larger of two bones supporting weight below the knee) from sliding forward as the dog takes weight.

The menisci are little pads inside the stifle joint that ensure that the bones of the stifle fit together nicely and have a smooth surface to glide on during movement. When the movement of the stifle becomes unstable, the menisci can tear, causing pain and lameness in our dogs.

The cruciate ligament can rupture as a result of trauma or degeneration of the ligament.

Maintenance appointments for healthy dogs

These sessions can be beneficial for:

  • Preventing injuries: By identifying and addressing muscle imbalances early on, we can help reduce the risk of future problems.
  • Maintaining performance: For active dogs, myotherapy can help optimise muscle function, improve flexibility, and enhance performance.
  • Promoting overall well-being: Regular myotherapy sessions can contribute to a dog’s general comfort, relaxation, and quality of life.

Elbow Dysplasia

Elbow dysplasia is coined as a general term but actually can involve three areas of the elbow as a combination of these or independently. By treating compensatory issues your canine massage therapist can support the condition.

Osteoarthritis

80% of dogs over the age of 8yrs have arthritis. Just because we can’t change what is happening in the joint (hence it being a degenerative disease) we can help with some of the consequences of living with OA.

Before and after my treatments

Before Treatment After Treatment

Hi, I’m Amanda, and I can’t wait to work with your dog

It is my belief that my ability to bridge the gap between daunting veterinary diagnoses, confusing vet speak and the worried anxious owner allows me to bring benefits for both canine and human family members alike.

With every dog, and every footstep they take, I strive to deliver successful therapy treatment to any dog in need, and will cherish every one along the way.

Client  testimonials

Brian has had 4 massages now with Amanda.

He loves them! She is passionate about what she does and it’s infectious.

The before and after photos showed the improvement in his posture.

Brian has had a double cruciate surgery and onset osteoporosis, he was actually limping before the treatment, I’m aware of so much more now. Amanda always shares her knowledge, so I can continue treatments at home.

Brian hasn’t reverted back and he definitely can walk with more ease now, which is a joy to see. Thank you Amanda

Brian's Owner

It was an interesting few sessions. As an experienced dog handler Amanda brought not just the Galen technique but also a great person to quiz and discuss other concerns.

I would recommend Amanda and the technique to others. Also if what I have been shown is not enough I will call Amanda in to ‘settle’ Tilly if required.

Tilly was very central to Amanda’s attention and she was prepared to be flexible in approach and treatment setting to make Tilly receptive.
